An Autumn Wedding in County Donegal with Elegant Details

From the bride: We had been together for 10 years so we wanted our wedding to be fun and all about our family and friends. Our friends and family knew each other really well and we had so many mutual friends from college. It was really important that we got to spend lots of time with each other and the people we love! Seems easy but on the day you can so easily get swept up in the little silly things!

Having our families involved in the preparations was so important – on the day everyone felt they had played their part to make the day which was a great feeling.

What did you want in your dress?

I wanted something classic that would be timeless – so I would never look back and cringe!! I loved wedding dress shopping and could have bought so many. I knew as soon as I tried on my dress that it was the one. Lace was a must – it is so timeless and elegant. What was important was getting the right dress for my shape. After that I could really concentrate on the detail.

The Inspiration for your Day 

I always wanted an Autumn wedding as I love the colours from that time of year. I picked the last weekend in September (Once it was confirmed with himself that it wouldn’t clash with the All Ireland Final^!). We could bring the stunning autumnal theme through to our invites, table plan, flowers and cake. Classic dresses were picked by the bridesmaids and smart suits for the boys – to add some simple elegance.

The Favourite Part of your Day

The ceremony was really important to us – we were married in the Cathedral in Letterkenny by my uncle. Reciting our vows was a really special moment. Of course we had a special visit from Sam Maguire* which really added to the excitment of the day!

*Sam Maguire is the name of the trophy presented to the winners of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
